Daniel and I, like most everyone, look forward to the weekends, probably more so now (at least for me) than when we were in college. This past weekend Daniels parents came to town and we ate really well. Now that we live in Memphis we have this thing about not eating at places that we can eat at in Alabama. We're out to find the "hole in the wall-out of this world-Memphis only restaurants".
This past weekend we experienced The Germantown Commissary their slogan is "So good yull slap yo mama" and we all pretty much agreed. They had great bbq and fantastic sweet tea. Daniel, was really excited because we got to keep the cups :). Saturday night I cooked, now I was cooking one of my favorite soups which I have fixed before except this time I burned it. I am really not that bad of a cook and you might ask how do you burn soup, you just can trust me. The Mexican cornbread was good though. I just wish I hadn't burned the soup on a night his parents were here. But I have the rest of our lives to redeem my cooking.
Sunday after church we went to Gus's fried Chicken. You order your chicken then they cook it fresh. It's amazingly fattening but oh so good and to top off all that fat, we consumed even more calories by eating the fried brownie bites over ice cream, yes I said fried. So good but needless to say Daniel and I were really sick, we usually don't eat fat with a side of more fat. And yes I just got back from a much needed run, if we are going to eat at all of Memphis finest hole in the wall's I'm going to have to hit my running shoes to the pavement on a regular basis, so far so good.

Life away from the Capstone.

When I was in school I thought that when you graduated you were free. And to an extent I was right, you're free from tests, free from all-nighters, writing papers, and so on. But now that I have entered the work force I have learned that college days are full of freedom and that working 9-5 is just not. Yes in college you do have to go to class and perhaps a job, but in college, everyday held something different. You possessed an amount of freedom that you really can't get back. Now if I oversleep I can't just hit the snooze one more time saying I'll be sure to catch the next class, I now have to answer to a boss, who isn't so lenient on tardies.
Daniel and I have have so far enjoyed Memphis, but we just can't get away from the fact that Tuscaloosa has a piece of our hearts. Maybe it's just this time of year when the campus colors change from green to gold, or when tailgaters arrive days early to cheer on the Tide. Whatever it is we can't escape that "Tuscaloosa-sick" feeling we experience most every time we have to watch the game on our living room couch instead of from the student section. We miss our friends, we miss seeing Bryant-Denny from almost anywhere in town and we miss the college routine that we had gotten so good at. For now we remind ourselves that we will visit whenever we get the chance, and we remember that we have a piece of Tuscaloosa with us always and that's each other.
