Mexican Cornbread With a Side of Burnt Soup

Daniel and I, like most everyone, look forward to the weekends, probably more so now (at least for me) than when we were in college. This past weekend Daniels parents came to town and we ate really well. Now that we live in Memphis we have this thing about not eating at places that we can eat at in Alabama. We're out to find the "hole in the wall-out of this world-Memphis only restaurants".

This past weekend we experienced The Germantown Commissary their slogan is "So good yull slap yo mama" and we all pretty much agreed. They had great bbq and fantastic sweet tea. Daniel, was really excited because we got to keep the cups :). Saturday night I cooked, now I was cooking one of my favorite soups which I have fixed before except this time I burned it. I am really not that bad of a cook and you might ask how do you burn soup, you just can trust me. The Mexican cornbread was good though. I just wish I hadn't burned the soup on a night his parents were here. But I have the rest of our lives to redeem my cooking.

Sunday after church we went to Gus's fried Chicken. You order your chicken then they cook it fresh. It's amazingly fattening but oh so good and to top off all that fat, we consumed even more calories by eating the fried brownie bites over ice cream, yes I said fried. So good but needless to say Daniel and I were really sick, we usually don't eat fat with a side of more fat. And yes I just got back from a much needed run, if we are going to eat at all of Memphis finest hole in the wall's I'm going to have to hit my running shoes to the pavement on a regular basis, so far so good.
